About Attorney Joyce Davis

 

Joyce Davis has been a lawyer in Massachusetts in both the public and private sectors since 1984. For eleven years, she practiced at the law firm of Morrison, Mahoney & Miller, LLP, one of the largest insurance firms in Boston, where she specialized in workers' compensation and insurance regulation. She also served as a Massachusetts Assistant Attorney General, Counsel to the State Rating Bureau at the Massachusetts Division of Insurance and Law Clerk to the Honorable Harriett R. Taylor of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

 

Attorney Davis is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin (Madison) and Northeastern University School of Law. She is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and the U.S. Court of Appeals, First Circuit. Attorney Davis has made presentations to a variety of audiences, including judges at the Department of Industrial Accidents, the Brazilian Immigrant Center, the Employment Law Section of the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Chinese Progressive Association. 

 

Attorney Davis is active in securing immigrants' rights to Massachusetts workers' compensation benefits and safe working environments. In both 2009 and 2010, she was voted Best Workers' Compensation Attorney by the readers of The Brazilian Magazine.

 

Attorney Davis' experience includes:


-Successfully litigating numerous workers' compensation cases before the Massachusetts Department of Industrial Accidents;

-Assisting clients to obtain Social Security Disability benefits;
-Successfully appealing denials of short and long-term disability insurance benefits;
-Writing accident and health, liability and excess workers' compensation insurance policies;
-Advising clients on the formation of workers' compensation self-insurance groups and acting as corporate counsel to the groups;
-Successfully representing employers in classification appeals at the Workers' Compensation Rating and Inspection Bureau and the Massachusetts Division of Insurance;
-Preparing coverage opinions;
-Negotiating third party administrator and health provider contracts;
-Representing clients in rulemaking proceedings; and
-Participating in insurance and utility rate hearings.
